car wreck.
fuck.
some obscenely drunk 19 year old (said he'd had a fifth, which i'm told is an awful lot) just smashed into our car with a four-wheeler (well, "just" as in "right as mccain took the stage to speak." needless to say i haven't heard the speech yet). wasnt paying attention to what he was doing, went over a speed bump too fast, smashed into a telephone pole which messed up his tire, lost control of the vehicle and smashed into our car.
we're probably going to have to have a door replaced, and some strip along the bottom.
mom thinks around $3000 in damage, at least.
and mason's dad came to take the four wheeler away. one of the front wheels was messed up from hitting our car, so it got stuck when they tried to roll it up into the truck. so like, 4 guys (my neighbor chris, my neighbor jack, mason's dad, and the cop) were all pushin it and liftin it tryin to force it into the truck.
.. and it smashed into the back window of the truck. and shattered the entire thing. made the awfullest sound..
we have good neighbors, though. by the time i got out there (and i was out there within a minute) my neighbors had practically swarmed the guy to keep him from leaving. matt (i think?) from next door took his keys immediately. jack was trying to calm him down. there were 6 people out there around him by the time i got mom outside.
jonathan (my cousin, a cop in prestonsburg) says he'll be charged with dui (and that the "little cop" isn't charging him with driving a four wheeler on a road or anything else he could, which jonathan found annoying). and .. some other stuff. and if he can't pay the damages he'll have to stay in jail. mom isn't optimistic about the kid being able to pay it. he's from a pretty poor area.
ugh. im goin to bed.
ps- no unsupervised visits for stephen with his mom, or dad, or grandmother.
mom said the judge's jaw dropped when she heard he had been in prison for criminal abuse of a minor.
brian was furious after it was over. said it was a "waste of his fuckin time," and that he didn't even need to come. and called stephen's lawyer and the judge (both female) "bitches" (not in the courtroom). seriously, he will NOT take responsibility for anything, thinks of NOTHING but himself, and has serious issues with powerful women. stephen was really upset when he found out about the visits thing. he was .. throwing a fit because he was so upset, y'know? not .. really angry. just really upset. he was being extremely irrational, and mom and i both snapped at him. not at him. just. i said some mean things about his dad that i shouldn't have. i started out nice enough, and i meant well. i just .. lost my temper. said his dad hasn't done a single thing right for him. which. .. its true, and i said it because im so angry at that man (the SOLE reason he can't have unsupervised visits is because he hasnt even TRIED to contact the social workers. the ONLY thing he'd have to do is have regular drug tests, and he just doesn't care. he won't do anything about it at all).. but it hurt stephen. i think he's alright now. mom said things she shouldnt have as well. nothing *too* bad, but just things she could've phrased better. we both felt pretty awful about the entire thing.
mom said the lawyer/social workers/etc pretty much want to make him staying with us permanent.
pps- i played "parent" at stephen's student/parent academic team meeting today while mom was in grayson for the court thing. it was crazy. i remembered the classroom we were in from when i took tests in there, and recognized a bunch of parents. nostalgia! (also? that was the BEST test room ever. i took english composition in there once and the walls are COVERED in quotes about grammar and writing and .. everything. the walls are literally covered 100% in information about the english language and writing.)
it made me miss the bald man who used to read the quick recall questions. the one who said something along the lines of "and assuming i'm not flammable" once.

*hugs* :( Stephen's dad sounds like a real winner. >:\ I can't rly blame you for going off about him like that :\
and he lied about his wages so the court would appoint a lawyer. and actually tried to make EXCUSES for his charge of criminal abuse of a minor. ... his "excuse" being that he was high and the baby just happened to fall in scalding hot water.
.......
im so tired of him.
mom says after he files bankruptcy, he says he's getting a job in telecommunication. and it'll have him travelling a lot. i can't wait for him to gtfo.
and. you dont hafta have insurance for four-wheelers. so. thats not gonna help out at all. but his grandmother called just now and wanted to know about the damages (mom wasnt here so i talked to her) and said she'd be in touch and we'd work something out. so. i think its a good sign that she called so soon. mom was surprised about it.
And I TOTALLY remember that bald guy. Remember how after he finished reading a question he would tilt his head down and look over the rims of his glasses at both teams?
and yeah, in the guys defense it was after dark and the street light he hit wasn't turned on. so it was extra dark. but. yeah. ... i don't even know how hitting a speed bump fast makes you hit a telephone pole and then somehow hit a car SEVERAL feet away on the opposite side of the street.

i don't understand why people drive drunk.
